Application Details

Applicants for employment must be at least 18 years of age and have either a high school diploma or a GED.
Applicants must be certified or certifiable as a firefighter with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and a minimum as an EMT-B with the Texas Department of State Health Services by date of hire.

Incomplete or ineligible applications will be removed from the hiring process.

Applications must include a current driving record from the Texas Department of Public Safety with written verification of certifications.

 

The current Oak Hill Fire Department pay rates are:
$25.29 per hour (while on probation)
$25.86 per hour (off probation)

How many positions are you hiring?

There is currently one opening being considered for hire.
However, this hiring process will establish the list from which new hires will be taken for up to the next 12 months. If more openings develop, those completing this process will be considered for employment from the list based on their ranking at the conclusion of the process.

 

What is the Oak Hill Fire Department’s shift schedule?

The Oak Hill Fire Department has adopted the 48/96 work schedule. Firefighters report for two consecutive 24-hour shifts that comprise one 48-hour tour. They are then scheduled off duty for 96 hours before their next tour.

 

Does the Oak Hill Fire Department have “Kelly” shifts?

The Oak Hill Fire Department pays regularly scheduled overtime and does not utilize “Kelly” shifts.

What does the Oak Hill Fire Department do to minimize cancer risks?

The Oak Hill Fire Department has taken numerous steps to minimize the risk of cancer in the Firefighting profession. We provide two sets of structural Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Operations personnel, have separate storage rooms for PPE storage, and we have implemented a decontamination guideline where crews remain out of service following a fire to ensure they shower and switch into their second set of PPE prior to returning to service. We also provide dedicated equipment for gross and fine level decontamination and continue working on new concepts to expand protection in upcoming budgets.
*The Oak Hill Fire Department is also a tobacco, e-cig, and vape-free organization. No use of these items is permitted on our properties, in our vehicles, on incident scenes, or at any time while on duty.

 

What if I have a Firefighter certification from another state?

If you hold an active certification from another state, please contact the Texas Commission on Fire Protection to determine what may be required for you to become a certified Firefighter in the State of Texas. The Oak Hill Fire Department cannot accept out of state certifications in lieu of certification from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. Applicants must hold an active TCFP Firefighter certification by the testing date in order to be eligible for our process.
