Employment and Volunteering Opportunities
Oak Hill has teamed up with Westlake and Hudson Bend Fire Departments to form
the Multi-Agency Prequalification Process, where interested applicants can take
the written and physical tests in order to qualify themselves for application
with any of the three fire departments. More information can be found here.
Employment Opportunities
Applicants for employment must be at least 18 years of age and have either a
high school diploma or a GED. They must be certified or certifiable as a
firefighter with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and as a minimum an
EMT-B with the Texas Department of State Health Services by date of hire.
Applications must include a current criminal history (within 30 days of the
application deadline) and a driving record from the Texas Department of Public
Safety, with written verification of certifications.

Reserve Member Opportunities
To become a member, please contact the Reserve Member Coordinator, Preston

Training is offered free of charge by the department, which is required for
members to be able to assist on scene. Fire training includes a minimums course
and Oak Hill Fire Department also offers training for members to take the State
Fire Commission Exam. A degree in fire protection is offered locally through
Austin Community College. Medical training is offered by the Austin Community
College and other local facilities for the following certifications:
ECA ~ Emergency Care Attendant
EMT-B ~ Emergency Medical Technician - Basic
EMT-I ~ Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate
EMT-P ~ Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic, and Licensed Paramedic
The Oak Hill Fire Department also runs a training academy to prepare students
for the State Fire Commission Exam, with consistently high pass rates.
Teenagers
aged 13 to 17 are welcome as junior members of Oak Hill Fire Department, as long
as they have at least one parent or guardian who is a full member of the
department and they maintain passing grades at school. Teenagers 13 to 15 who
become junior members are Junior Probationary Firefighters. 16 and 17 year olds
are Senior Probationary Firefighters. Both may assist on scene in a controlled
capacity.
