EMS Academy

The 2nd Annual EMS Academy began on August 11, 2008 and will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 pm until 9:30pm in addition to eight Saturday classes from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. The next Academy is scheduled to begin in January.

COURSE LENGTH:       Approximately 4 calendar months
                                Comprised of: 160 hours in classroom and lab
                                                    24 hours of hospital Emergency Department clinicals
                                                    36 hours of ambulance field rotations

COURSE COST:            $775 - includes textbook and workbook
                                ($200 deposit due with application)

ADDITIONAL COSTS:     National Registry Certification Fee - $70
                                 Texas DSHS Certification Fee – $64
                                 Texas Dept of Public Safety Criminal Safety Check
                                 (documentation required at orientation)

IMMUNIZATIONS:         Proof required at Orientation
                                  Hep B (at least 1st dose), Tetanus, TB Skin Test, MMR, Polio & Chickenpox

Emergency Medical Technician – Basic Course (EMT-B) is designed to prepare students to enter the Emergency Medical Services Field at an entry level position as an EMT-Basic. The EMT-B Course is taught to the DOT curriculum and the number of course hours exceeds the minimum number of course hours required by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Once the student has successfully completed the course, they are eligible for certification with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and then they are eligible to apply for certification with the Texas Department of State Health Services.
